Sail Safaris is ramping up for another great season. We have great new guides, including an American Sailing Association sailing instructor, which will be great for those learning to sail. The boats have all been hauled out, gone over from "stem to stern" and re - launched. We've ordered new parts and polished everything. Now it's time to go sailing!
St John is very lush right now because of all the rain. The island is literally alive with birds, bugs and frogs.
July 2007
Sail Safaris is having a great year. We
have found a perfect location right on the beach in
Cruz Bay. Come down and see us: Step off the passenger
ferry on St John, USVI and our boats are to your right
and a short walk down the beach. If we're out sailing
just call the number on the banner or grab a rack card
from the dispaly rack. The best way to arrange your trip
is to book in advance.
Lots of visitors have discovered the best way to explore
the beaches of St John, The Virgin Islands National Park,
and all the neighboring islands is by Hobie Cat. I've had
many groups sign up for a half day only to sign up again
for full days! That's the best compliment we could ever
hope for.
We have partnered with several booking agents or just call
us, we'll meet you on the beach. Everyone who has taken one
of our tours has loved it! I am collecting quotes from
thrilled guests. Hopefully they'll go home and
spread the word so that everyone gets to experience a wild,
fun ride aboard our boats.
Recent highlights include seeing massive green turtles
come up for air while sailing in Hawksnest Bay. I took
a couple to the north side of Congo Cay and we saw tropic
birds nesting in the rocks. They circled us with their
long white tail feathers flying in the wind. Last week
we saw bottlenose dolphins right off the beach here in
Cruz Bay! And of course our usual visits from brown pelicans
and yellow footed boobys.
The full day tours continue to be our most popular.
There's something about
sailing up on a perfect coral sand beach, snorkeling with parrot fish,
and then having a picnic lunch under the palm trees that really wins
over our guests. More people are realizing how nice
it is to lounge on our trampoline and be cooled by
the splashing waves as we fly along to secret beaches
where we are the only ones around.
Our sailing lessons have been popular. The catamarans
are so responsive
and easy to sail. They also give instant feedback. I've had
several guests interested in sailing
experience
that they can use for their bigger sailboats back home. I've
also had many younger guests interested in learning to
sail.
Thanks to everyone who has helped Sail Safaris, especially
Phil Gaines at Hi Tech Signs who made
our incredible banners and signage, Rolando Garces who generously
did design work for our flyers, Pretlow at
Big Planet Adventure Outfitters who gives us advertising space and
bookings, Joe at Noah's Little Arks who welcomed us as a neighbor on
the beach, Arthur and Beth at Arawak Expeditions for their
invaluable help and friendship, Bob and the gang at Low
Key Watersports, and most of all my wife Mo who has given so much to our little enterprise, and
of course all our friends on St John
who have helped spread the word that a Hobie Cat Tour is the "best
thing you can do on your vacation."
